What the Vitromotus is
A vast underground prison built as a magical confinement, where death no longer lasts. You wake inside it with no memory of how you got there.
Kymia is a mysterious power born from emotions that brings those trapped in the Vitromotus back to life; over the years it reshaped the prison into strange biomes and bizarre monsters.
It is procedurally generated and split into 8 biomes; the layout changes every time you start a new game.
Revealed bosses
Fight mechanics for these bosses have not been published; the descriptions come from the studio’s concept-art posts on Steam and from IGN’s preview.
| Boss | Revealed | What the official art and previews show |
|---|---|---|
| Funguspider Matriarch | November 3, 2023 | A giant purple spider carrying a skull-shaped orange fungus on its back. IGN fought a “Spider Matriarch” at the end of the prologue, where the regular spiders also have mushrooms growing on their backs. |
| Kaldhor | November 3, 2023 | A spectral, glowing-blue figure in horned plate armor wielding a huge double-bladed axe. |
| Heartwood Abomination | November 3, 2023 | A crimson tree fused with a skeleton, swinging two sickles on glowing green chains. |
| Rotgam | November 24, 2023 | “Fallen Hero of the Scavengers”, revealed together with one of his Scavengers. |
Rescuing villagers and rebuilding Emberville
- Rescued townsfolk show their gratitude with rewards and teachings, lend you their skills and help rebuild their homes.
- You learn their trades, secrets and dreams while helping with their quests.
- You can read their diaries while they are not looking.
- The more you rebuild, the more systems unlock, and the more the town tells its story over time.
- Carpentry produces the furniture and advanced materials the rebuilding needs (all 14 masteries).
Characters met in the previews
Most of the 22 announced actors were not in the preview build. The full list is on the voice cast page.
| Character | Voiced by | Who they are |
|---|---|---|
| Adeos | Alex Jordan | An elderly prisoner of the Vitromotus, “not quite all there” |
| Gumu | Matthew Mercer | A gremlin-like shopkeeper |
Death and kymia
Kymia is why death does not last here. In the prologue, Tails by the Foxfire was revived moments later near where they fell, with no broken equipment or dropped items noticed, so you can learn fights by retrying them.
The three core spaces
| Space | What happens there |
|---|---|
| The Vitromotus | The main dungeon: weird enemies, traps and bosses. |
| Emberville (the town) | The main hub. The more you rebuild, the more systems unlock and the more of the town’s story you hear. |
| The Creative Area (your Estate) | Your own space to build a home, grow crops, decorate and craft; all life-skill tools live here. |
